The Stena Line crossing from Hoek van Holland to Harwich takes about seven hours.  Somewhere in the middle of the North Sea, roughly two hours out, every normal travel eSIM I have ever carried goes dark. Ship wifi wanted €19 for the crossing.

My GigSky ferry plan was already running, because I had installed it the night before in a hotel in Rotterdam. That is the part most people get wrong.

Short version

Use ESIMADVICE15 at GigSky checkout for 15% off any plan — land, cruise, ferry or offshore. It works for new and existing customers and there is no minimum spend. It applies to single-country plans and regional bundles alike.

But before you pay for anything: check whether your Visa card already gives you GigSky data for free. Since April 2026, eligible Visa cardholders get 3 to 7 days of unlimited data in participating countries at no cost, plus 20–30% off everything else.

Some US card issuers give 3–5GB every month. Most people who buy a GigSky plan never check, and a lot of them are paying for data they already own.

Check the card first. Use the code on whatever the card doesn’t cover.

GigSky Visa benefits: check your card first

This is the part nobody writes about, and it is worth more than any coupon.

On 1 April 2026 Visa and GigSky launched Visa Destinations — a benefit attached to eligible Visa cards that gives complimentary unlimited data in participating countries.

What your Visa card gets you

Card tierComplimentary unlimited dataDiscount on other GigSky plans
Visa Infinite (consumer or commercial, incl. Canadian Infinite Privilege)7 days unlimited30% off
All other eligible Visa cards — Signature, Platinum, Gold, Classic, debit, prepaid3 days unlimited20% off

The discount applies automatically at checkout once your card is verified. No code needed, and GigSky states it does not expire while you remain an eligible cardholder.

Which countries participate?

GigSky’s own pages are not consistent on this. The FAQ on the Visa Destinations page still says four countries. Their benefits page and issuer pages say six. The terms page phrases it differently again.

The list you should work from:

United Kingdom

France

United Arab Emirates

Europe

Thailand

United States

Canada

Mexico

Visa says more destinations are being added.

One thing to be clear about: the expanded North America coverage ran as a World Cup promotion from 1 April to 31 July 2026. That window has now closed. Check the current list in the app before you count on Canada or Mexico.

Card issuer programmes — this is where the real value sits

Beyond the Visa Destinations benefit, individual issuers run their own GigSky programmes. Several are considerably more generous.

Issuer / cardWhat you get
U.S. Bank Altitude Connect Visa Signature5GB every month across 175+ countries, plus 20% off all plans including cruise

Visa Japan — Infinite and Signature3GB or 1GB / 15-day, up to 7 days unlimited, plus 30% off

If you hold a U.S. Bank Altitude Connect card and travel monthly, that is 60GB of international data a year you are entitled to and probably not claiming.

How to check your eligibility

  • Download the GigSky app on iOS or Android.
  • Tap the Visa banner on the home screen.
  • Enter your Visa card number. GigSky checks eligibility against the card BIN.
  • If eligible, your benefits appear on screen.
  • Enter your Visa account details to confirm your entitlements.
  • Tap a card to redeem. You can add as many cards as you like.
  • Select the benefit you want and check out with the complimentary plan.
  • Install the eSIM. Do this at home.

If your Visa card lives in Apple Pay or Google Pay, you need to add the card directly inside the GigSky app — the digital wallet alone will not verify it.

The catch on the Visa benefit

Every benefit has limits, and these ones are worth knowing before you plan a trip around them.

  • One redemption per country per 365 days. Global plans are once per calendar year, with a few exceptions — Canadian Infinite Privilege gets two, Caixa cardholders get two.
  • One redemption per card number. Primary or authorised user, whichever activates first.
  • You have 365 days to activate, after which the plan auto-activates whether you are travelling or not. The LATAM, Caribbean and Brazil programme uses a 30-day window instead, which is much tighter.
  • The clock starts on activation, not on redemption. Thailand is the exception — that plan kicks in automatically once you arrive.
  • Cruise is not covered by the free plan. The 20% or 30% discount does apply to cruise plans, but the complimentary data does not work at sea.
  • Your home country is excluded from the 175+ country complimentary plans.
  • Multiple cards work. Each eligible card carries its own benefit, so a household with three Visa cards has three sets of entitlements.
  • The programme’s stated promotional period runs to June 2029.

How to apply the GigSky promo code

If your Visa card doesn’t cover your destination, or you need more data than the free allowance, the GigSky promo code is the next lever. ESIMADVICE15 goes in the same field wherever you buy.

In the GigSky app:

Step 1:

Open GigSky and choose your plan type — Country, Regional, Global, Cruise, Ferry or Inflight.

Step 2:

Pick your destination and data plan.

Step 3:

Tap through to the payment screen.

Step 4:

Find the promo code field and enter ESIMADVICE15 in capitals.

Step 5:

Apply it, then check the order total, not the plan price. The discount shows as its own line.

GigSky Esim Purchase Complete and Ready to Install

Step 6:

Pay, then install the eSIM.

On gigsky.com

  • Go to gigsky.com and select your destination or plan type.
  • Add the plan to your cart and continue to checkout.
  • Enter ESIMADVICE15 in the promo code field above the total.
  • Confirm the total dropped by 15% before you pay.

What GigSky actually sells?

GigSky sells prepaid mobile data abroad in 200+ countries and regions — no contract, no international roaming bill — and it offers more plan types than almost anyone else in this category. That breadth is the reason to use it.

GigSky Cruise
Plan typeWhat it coversStarting price
CountrySingle destination, 200+ availableFrom $3.99
RegionalNorth America, Europe, Caribbean, Middle East, APAC, Africa, LATAMVaries
Global / WorldMulti-continent coverageVaries
Cruise + Land290+ ships plus the countries you dock inFrom $18.99
At Sea OnlyShip coverage without landFrom $19.99
FerryBrittany Ferries, Color Line, DFDS, Stena LineFrom $7.99
InflightNew; in-flight connectivityFrom $13.99
OffshoreNorth Sea, Gulf of Mexico and similarFrom $9.99
GigSky OneGlobal monthly subscription$33.99/month

Plans are data-only — no voice, no SMS. GigSky does not run a conventional top-up system: when a plan runs out you buy another, and the code applies again. There is a free trial: a 100MB plan with no credit card required, and a 500MB free plan currently listed. Try that before you spend anything.

Cruise plans: where GigSky has no real competitor

Almost nobody else sells a proper cruise eSIM. GigSky covers 290+ ships across Royal Caribbean, Carnival, Disney, Celebrity, MSC, Norwegian, Princess and P&O.

There are two shapes. Cruise + Land covers the ship and the countries you dock in — Americas and Caribbean spans 48 countries, Europe 44, Asia Pacific 25, Middle East 9, and the World plan reaches 128. At Sea Only covers the ship alone.

Plans run from 512MB to 20GB, over 1 to 120 days, priced from about $18.99 up to $254.99 for the largest tiers.

Cruise optionTypical cost
Cruise line’s own wifi package$12–$20 per day
A 7-day cruise on ship wifi$200–$300
GigSky Cruise + Land, entry tierFrom $18.99 — $16.14 with ESIMADVICE15
GigSky Cruise, larger tiersUp to $254.99 — $216.74 with the code
GigSky - Cruise + Land plan

Two honest limitations before you buy. Cruise speeds run around 700 Kbps to 4 Mbps — fine for messaging, maps and email, not for video calls. And there is no connectivity within 12 nautical miles of shore, which is exactly when you are pulling into port and want it most. Buy a land plan for the port days, or a Cruise + Land bundle that covers both.

Ferry plans: the one almost nobody knows exists

GigSky sells ferry data from $7.99, covering Brittany Ferries, Color Line, DFDS and Stena Line. It works on deck offshore, while docked in port, and hands over to normal land coverage when you disembark.

GigSky - Ferry Plan

Install it before you board. It activates automatically once you are on the ship. If you have ever crossed the Channel, the Baltic or the North Sea and watched your phone lose signal an hour out while the onboard wifi asked for €19, this is the fix. With ESIMADVICE15 the entry plan is $6.79.

US ferry routes are listed as temporarily unavailable at the moment.

GigSky One: the subscription option

If you are abroad more than you are home, the per-trip model stops making sense.

Gigsky One Plan
GigSky One planMonthly priceWith ESIMADVICE15
25GB$33.99$28.89
50GB$53.99$45.89
75GB$73.99$62.89

Covers 120+ countries, billed monthly, quarterly or annually, cancel anytime. Past your allowance it keeps working at up to 1 Mbps rather than cutting off.

Worth it if you travel more than roughly ten days a month. Skip it if you take two trips a year — buy country plans and use the code.

GigSky Business and enterprise plans

GigSky’s enterprise arm is a genuinely different product, not a rebadged consumer plan. It runs multi-IMSI across 800+ operators in 200 countries with dynamic carrier switching and automatic failover, plus data-centre redundancy in North America and Europe.

The controls sit on the SIM rather than the device — whitelisting, blacklisting, VPN tunnels, routing rules. There is a management portal with REST APIs, and automated eSIM deployment through Jamf, InTune and SOTI. Pricing is by quote, with a published self-serve per-GB list for teams that want it without a sales call.

It is aimed at aerospace, defence, financial services, healthcare, hospitality, petroleum and retail — organisations where a phone dropping off the network is a real problem. If you are buying for a team rather than yourself, that is the door to knock on.

What the discount is actually worth

PlanListWith ESIMADVICE15You save
Country plan, entry tier$3.99$3.39$0.60
Ferry plan, entry tier$7.99$6.79$1.20
Offshore plan, entry tier$9.99$8.49$1.50
Inflight plan, entry tier$13.99$11.89$2.10
Cruise + Land, entry tier$18.99$16.14$2.85
GigSky One 25GB / month$33.99$28.89$5.10
GigSky One 50GB / month$53.99$45.89$8.10
Cruise, premium tier$254.99$216.74$38.25

The pattern is the same as every percentage discount: near-meaningless on a $4 plan, properly useful on cruise and subscription plans. On a family cruise booking two premium plans, the code covers dinner.

Against the alternative

OptionCost
AT&T international pay-per-use$2.05 per MB — around $2,100 per GB
AT&T / Verizon international day pass$12 per day
Cruise line wifi$12–$20 per day
Industry average, traditional roaming$8.57 per GB
Industry average, travel eSIM$5.50 per GB
GigSky country plan, entry tier with code$3.39

Roughly 90% of mobile users never turn roaming on abroad at all. They switch data off and hunt for wifi. That is the real competition here — not other eSIMs.

Things nobody tells you about GigSky

  • Check the card before you check the price. If you hold a Visa Infinite and you are going to the UK, France, the UAE or Thailand, seven days of unlimited data costs you nothing. The code is for what’s left over.
  • The Visa discount and the promo code do not stack. Whichever is larger applies. If your card gives 20% or 30%, that beats ESIMADVICE15 — use the card benefit.
  • Unlimited plans have a daily ceiling. GigSky’s pages quote it as either 3.5GB or 2.5GB per day depending which page you land on. They have not reconciled the two figures. Assume the lower one and you won’t be caught out.
  • Cruise plans go dead near shore. No connectivity within 12 nautical miles. On a port-heavy itinerary, the Cruise + Land bundle is not an upsell, it’s the thing you actually need.
  • Install before you fly, sail or board. I once tried to scan an activation QR code in the Marrakech arrivals hall with no wifi and no data. It does not work. Every plan here — land, ferry, cruise — should be installed while you still have a connection.

Frequently asked questions

What is the GigSky promo code for 2026?

ESIMADVICE15 gives 15% off all GigSky plans, including cruise, ferry and offshore. AFFMAVEN10 gives 10% off as a backup. Both work for new and existing customers with no minimum spend

Does the GigSky discount code work for existing customers?

Yes. Neither code is restricted to a first order. There is no new-customer-only condition on either one.

Where do I enter the GigSky coupon code?

In the promo code field at checkout, either in the GigSky app or on gigsky.com. Enter it in capitals and confirm the order total changes before paying.

Can I stack the GigSky promo code with my Visa benefit?

No. One discount per order. If your Visa card gives 20% or 30% off, that is applied instead and it is the better deal — the code is for purchases the card benefit doesn’t cover.

How do I get free GigSky data with a Visa card?

Download the GigSky app, tap the Visa banner, and enter your Visa card number. Eligible Visa Infinite cards get 7 days of unlimited data in participating countries; other eligible Visa cards get 3 days. Some issuers, including U.S. Bank and UBS, give a monthly or annual data allowance on top.

Which countries does the Visa benefit cover?

The United Kingdom, France, the United Arab Emirates, Thailand and North America. GigSky’s own pages list this inconsistently, so confirm the current list in the app before you travel.

Does GigSky work on a cruise?

Yes — it is one of very few providers that sells a proper cruise eSIM, covering 290+ ships. Speeds run 700 Kbps to 4 Mbps and there is no service within 12 nautical miles of shore, so pair it with a land plan for port days.

Does GigSky have ferry plans?

Yes, from $7.99, covering Brittany Ferries, Color Line, DFDS and Stena Line. Install before boarding; it activates automatically once you are on the ship.

Is there a GigSky free trial?

Yes. GigSky offers a free 100MB plan with no credit card required, and a 500MB free plan is currently listed. Use it to check coverage on your device before you buy.

Does GigSky offer business plans?

Yes. GigSky’s enterprise product runs multi-IMSI across 800+ operators in 200 countries, with a management portal, REST APIs and MDM deployment via Jamf, InTune and SOTI. Pricing is by quote.

Does GigSky include calls and texts?

No. All GigSky plans are data-only. Use WhatsApp, FaceTime or another VoIP app for calls.

Is GigSky legit?

Yes. GigSky operates in 200+ countries, is Visa’s connectivity partner for its global travel benefit programme, and reports over a million users with a 4.6 average app rating.
